Hair stylist Chantel Quinn believes in being brave enough to accept change, giving your business time and a really good blow-dry.

How many years have you owned your own business?

I have had Runway for almost nine years.

How do you balance work and life responsibilities?

I don’t really, it’s not my strength, when I am away from work the guilt hits and I just want to be at work! But I just love what I do.

All small businesses have their challenges. What were some of yours and how did you persevere?

I think the industry I am in is so client focused, finding time to work on the business when I am so busy in the business is hard, especially now I am a mum. Staff are my key to help preserve my time.

What is something you have had to sacrifice to get where you are today?

A lot! Family time, social events, travel, my own health and fitness, having my own life in order. Just ask my partner, I always put work first and it is a sacrifice, but those closest to me know it’s my driving passion.

What has been the highlight of your career?

The new salon is the biggest highlight. I have such a full, young energetic team, a beautiful space and my cup feels full!

What advice would you give someone wanting to start their own business?

Give it time, it takes years – not every goal will pull off but it will lead you to the next chapter. You only live once, do it, absolutely do it!

What keeps you up at night?

Thankfully now not my child anymore! Planning the next stage of growth for Runway, dreaming of my next business venture, I would love to open a wellness centre and bring my passion for fitness and self-care together. Tamworth is growing and ready for more amazing businesses.

Do you have a secret to your success?

To be honest my success has come from hard work, huge hours on the floor and the ability to always accept change and grow with the future of our industry.
