MINT TEA

Based in Tamworth NSW, Carina Chambers is the artists behind the piece 'Mint Tea'.

When Carina Chambers was asked “what do you want to be when you’re all grown up?” by a fellow pre-schooler in a sandpit some thirty years ago, she didn’t give her reply a second thought.

“Either an artist or an astronaut,” Carina said.

Nowadays, while she may not be flying to the moon, Carina is certainly living her dream lifestyle of an established artist – among many other things. Her artistic practice involves depicting rural experiences via watercolour and acrylics on canvas and table linens. Through her concentrated use of colour and multi-layered linework, Carina’s work evokes a sense of childlike wonder and delectability. Featuring representational imagery and mood-driven colour choice, her current pieces are undeniably an abstract exploration of the creative’s self and surrounds.

Inspired by a workshop hosted by Kate Owen, Carina has recently expanded her creative scope - endeavouring to work with larger canvases and free-form composition.

By painting intuitively, in line with her subconscious, the 34-year-old has the ability to harness her feelings and craft dynamically intimate bodies of work.

‘Happy blue crab’ and ‘Bangalow Dawn’ signify this new era of style for Carina. Comprised of deep blues and greens, offset with pops of pink and ochre - the acrylic paintings exude blissful tropic energy.

While still basking in her new-found love of abstracts, Carina remains deeply connected to her watercolour and table-scape roots. A lover of the expansive face tablecloth’s offer and backed by a degree in Visual Communications Design and International Studies; she established @longlunchlinen in 2018 following a tree change from Sydney to Tamworth. Producing a variety of French linen napery including hand-painted, florally steeped cloths; the company is one of Carina’s favourite endeavours.

Carina is currently based in Tamworth and currently has her first solo exhibition displaying at Mae & Jeune, Tamworth.
